These colourful little textile designs, called "Sarasa" in Japanese, were both painted and dyed cotton patterns from a small 1894 Japanese book. These cotton textiles were based on imported Indian calicos that arrived in Japan during the Edo Period and Sarasa is the Japanese term for cotton calicos or chintz.

As is typical of chintz, they include animal, bird, and floral motifs.

Each is framed with a double thick mat and a fine gold gild profile.

Dimensions: 16x18
